Guided walking tours in Greece- a note for guides Walk and Cycle in Crete

According to Presidential Decree:

A guide who is a citizen of an EC member state may offer guiding services in Greece when he or she accompanies a group of tourists coming from an EC member state who are part of an organised tour, for a certain length of time and specific route, in areas excluding museums and historic monuments as defined by law.

The guide must have either a professional licence issued in accordance with the laws of the country of origin or a certificate issued by the appropriate authority in the country of origin confirming that the person in question has been a full time guide for two years or the equivalent part-time over the past ten years and is in possession of one or more university or post-graduate degrees, which demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Greek civilization in general or of certain broad historical eras.

The guide must furnish an official translation of the above papers from his or her country of origin, which must be presented whenever so requested by the tourist police.
