Mountain refuges Walk and Cycle in Crete

Volikas

Volikas refuge at Volikas Keramion in the Lefka Ori is at 1360 metres. It can sleep 25 people with basic cooking facilities and a woodburning stove. Water is from a nearby spring. It is approached by a three hour walk from the nearest road at Kambi Kydonias.

Kallergis

Kallergis in the Lefka Ori is at 1580 metres. It is approached along five kilometres of track from Omalos. It can sleep 40 persons with organised cooking facilities and a woodburning stove for heating.

Prinos

Prinos refuge at Prinos on Psiloritis is at 1100 metres. It can sleep 25 people but has no kitchen facilities. A woodburning stove provides heating and a rainwater tank is the only source of water.

Access is through the village of Ano Assites near Malevizio where two kilometres of dirt road leads to Melisses and a one-and-a-half hour walk along a footpath to the refuge.

Stoumbotos Prinos

Another refuge at Stoumbotos Prinos on Psiloritis is at 1500 metres. It can sleep 50 people but has no kitchen facilities. It has a woodburning stove and the only source of water is a rainwater tank.

This can be approached from the village of Kouroutes along five kilometres of track to Agios Titos church in Pardi forest followed by a five kilometre walk along a footpath, or from the village of Lochria near Amario along a track to Kouroupito and then one-and-a-half kilometres of path.
