Too many students (and professors) seem to loose their critical faculties when they get caught up in an exciting idea.
At one extreme the dogmatic insistence on theories that are printed in a text book, even when these ideas are refuted by science, technology and the evidence.
At the other extreme the belief in magical explanations that defy known science.
