6.Castle Drogo,  Fingle Bridge, Butterdon, Linscott, Whiddon Park 8.8 mile walk in the Teign Valley, Dartmoor, Devon

2020:03:04

This is an 8.8 mile 14.2km circular walk with 1882 feet 621m of ascent, starting at Castle Drogo National Trust car park.

Follow the path from the car park down to Fingle Bridge, then cross the bridge and head up the track opposite.

We are not going rigth to the top, but heading left into Charles Wood and Hore Wood, to come out at Willingstone Cottages.

Cross the lane at Willingstone, cross the next lane, then turn left, downhill as you exit the wood. At the next lane turn right through Butterdon and keep close to the left hand wall over Butterdon Down. Don't take the first path off the moor, but take the second, and turn left when you reach a lane ( a bit boggy here). Turn right opposite the entrance to Bowden Farm and drop down through woodland to Linscott Cross. Turn right on the lane. Follow the lane until it turns sharp right and you go sharp left into woodland. Follow this path until it again comes out on a lane at Great Parford, and turn left. Follow the lane down until you an enter Whiddon Park through a gate. Follow this track until you come to a step over the wall at the suspension footbridge below Castle Drogo. Head up the valley past Coombe and take the path that doubles back over Hunter's Tor and then along the path until you come to the steps back up to the car park.
