2.Walk Meldon reservoir, West Okement valley, Black-a-Tor Copse, Brim Brook, Dinger Tor, High Willhays, Yes Tor, Red-a-ven Brook. 10 miles  16 km

2020:07:10

A lovely walk from Meldon Reservoir up the West Okement valley, through Black-a-Tor Copse ancient woodland, then as far as possible on the left bank to Kneeset Nose and Brim Brook. Mostly good walking with a lot of grassy turf further up. Route back along the ridge, Dinger Tor, High Willhays, Yes Tor, then almost due north picking a route down through the clitter to cross Red-a-ven Brook, down through the mine and quarry workings to the footbridge over the West Okement River and then the track back up to the car park.

The path passes this gateway - I think this is a drinking water intake above the reservoir. The enclose area show how the woodland can regenerate if not over grazed.

Black-a-Tor Copse becomes scattered trees on the clitter on the hillside. Sadly there is no sign of any regeneration - no young trees at all. The woodland needs to be fenced to allow regeneration to take place.

When the left bank of Brim Brook becomes flat and boggy there is a clear path heading away from the stream, due North. Shortly after leaving the brook the path splits, take the right fork for Dinger Tor

Dartmoor Panorama from the western edge of Yes Tor. - the top was too busy!  Extreme left, and east in this shot. The big circle of stones is west. To the right of that you can see the Meldon viaduct. I descended almsot due north from here, picking my way between the big patches of very large clitter down to the track you can see crossing Red-a-ven brook.
