2.The path along the top of the Caldera, La Palma, Canaries.

Drove up the road to the observatories. The forest looked beautiful. Sweet chestnut trees, then into connifer forest, then tree heather and at the top what looked like a very dense gorse or juniper type of bush. The parking place I had identified was easy to spot, and we set out from there 9.30  along the road to the path up to the ridge. Almost no cloud and fantastic views. An excellent walk. Just as we approached the top the cloud started to fill up the caldera. The top quite busy with car park and groups of walkers setting out - but no views for them! The return was quicker. Ended up as 8.8 miles. The road twists and turns. Second gear all the way up and down. One and a 1/4 hours to drive back down. 10 degrees on top of the mountain and 23 degrees in sunshine on the coast. Heavy rain in the forest!
