We parked in the village of Femes on the roadside - you can see our yellow car in the first picture.
We got off to an early start so did most of this walk in the morning while it was still cool. This walk would be like an oven on a hot day!
Start by following the track up to the goat house on the top of the hill.
There are information boards here and the tracks are waymarked. This landscape is all rather bare from overgrazing by the goats.
Follow the ridge path northwest, past the first small peak, then follow the ridge up to the second peak.
(Unless you are a good walker stay on the waymarked path and continue on to the next coll, before the waymarked path brings you back across the top of the next valley.)
We then followed the crest of the ridge down, picking our way carefully till we rejoined the very clear path as it comes over the ridge. Turn right to follow this clear path. In the next valley bottom we left the path to investigate a reddish mound. It hides a well in its center with unprotected lose scree slopes falling into it. A death trap for children and animals.
From there we followed the quad bike track up to the top of the next ridge where it rejoins the waymarked path.
Just to the west of the ridge is a large water tank (bring your own bucket and rope) and a shelter, which has now lost its roof, but the walls provide some shade.
The path is clearly marked as it drops slightly into the next valley, and then climbs up to the next ridge. There are some rocks a little way up the ridge that can also provide some shade.
The path levels out at the top of the ridge with views out over the Rubicon plain.
The path continues from here, mostly level, following a black water pipe on a path cut out of the side of the mountain.
It then crosses a high coll, still following the water pipe, to continue mostly level on the east side of the next hill. There are spectacular views of coloured cliffs here, and the goat farms sheds built into the side of the cliff opposite.
Stout shoes and bottled water is needed for this walk. Walking boots are better. Certainly not a walk for sandals.
Look at the satellite view on the map above and zoom in to see the detail. You can clearly see the path on the ground - two foot wide at most.
