Dear Peter,

This is a very interesting site. I am 58 years old and I have had high colestrol for several years. Presently total colestrol is 299. I have been on lipitor and it came down. Stopped taking lipitor over two years ago. However, I talk blood pressure medication and tyroid med. (tapazole). I do not want to put any more medication in my body.
Doc would like for me to go on medication for colestrol again. What do you recommend? Recently I took a stress test and everything was fine.

I don't have a list of potassium content to hand, but I use the following site for research into food values

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/index.html

This gives you the potassium content in miligrams per 100 grams.

bananas are high potassium at 358 mg/100g
cooked brown rice is low potassium at 43mg/100g
