This tree was growing in the garden, but was starting to rot at the base, so we asked some of the family to cut it down. First climb up the tree to fix a rope - no ladder needed!

The rope attached to the tree was then tied off to another tree to stop it falling towards the house. But the verdict was that the rope wasn't high enough.

Most of the weight is in the crown of the tree, and this came down with an almighty thump, with coconuts bouncing everywhere, and dust!

The trunk was then cut into sections for a fence, and the family set about extracting the growing point from the crown to eat.

All the leaf bases were cut away with axe and machette, before the chainsaw was used to slice down the middle of the crown.

There is a considerable amount of food in the growing point - the white part in this picture. Parts were immediately broken off and passed round to eat. Very tasty.
