Dolomites: Marmelada, one man chair, path back to Col del Rossi 2017:06:27

Caught the bus up to the Marmelade, raining, open tiny gondola cages.
Top is nowehere near the ice front so came back down in the gondola again.
Walked up path 604 from the dam. Steep climb up with good flowers. We sheltered from a thunderstorm while we ate our lunch. At the top a mostly level path with excellent views, plenty of flowers.
Back to Col del Rossi and then the pair of gondolas back to Canazei.

There is a path down but it didn't look in good repair...
The top of the one man baskets is a long way below the ice of the Marmelada...
We could see the ice in the distance, but decided it wasn't worth the effort to get any closer...
The foot of the Marmelada glacier, melting rapidly...

After walking back over the dam we headed up a path almost opposite the end of the dam that heads diagonally left up the hillside...

Climbing through scattered pine trees with good vies back to the dam....
Even cyclists on the path...
The path now contours along the hillside...
Mist blocking our views to the north...
Abundant orchids in the grass...
Approaching a small hut serving refreshments in summer...
And the path becomes a very narrow gravel road...
As we were somewhat bedraggled we took the gondolas back down to Canazei...
